Why Recycle?
Did you know? Unwanted electrical equipment is now the fastest-growing type of waste in the UK!
A lot of these items can be repaired or recycled, which helps preserve natural resources and protect the environment. However, when electrical items aren’t recycled, they often end up in landfills, where they release hazardous substances that can contaminate soil and water—posing risks to wildlife and human health.
We’re proud to support our local authority in offering convenient recycling facilities for electrical equipment near you.
Remember, old electrical items are recyclable and are now labeled with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please don’t toss any electrical equipment (especially those with this symbol) in your regular bin.
What is WEEE Compliant?
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is all about encouraging countries to handle discarded electronics responsibly. It asks each country to make a real effort to collect old electrical and electronic items separately—things like broken or outdated appliances, and other unused devices—rather than tossing them in with regular trash.
Once collected, these items should be processed in ways that minimise harm to the environment. This means recycling materials, safely disposing of any hazardous substances, and doing what we can to reduce waste. Ultimately, it’s a step towards a greener, more sustainable way of dealing with the electronics we no longer need.
In the UK, retailers and other distributors are required to offer customers a way to recycle old electrical items for free when they buy new ones. As a responsible retailer, we’re committed to doing our part. That’s why we contribute financially to the national network of WEEE recycling centers set up by local authorities, through our membership in the Distributor Take-back Scheme (DTS).For more information on WEEE recycling or to find the nearest recycling center, just head over to the Recycle More website.
