Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes
Serves: 4
Ingredients
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 large orange, zested and juiced
- 3 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp low-salt soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 3 tbsp cornflour
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- generous pinch of Chinese five-spice powder
- 300g raw king prawns
- 3 tbsp sunflower or vegetable oil
- 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
- 2 spring onions, sliced
- 200g long-grain rice, cooked, to serve
Method
Step 1: Mix the oil, honey, soy, vinegar, orange zest and juice into a bowl. Next, in a separate bowl combine the cornflour, sesame seeds, five-spice powder and a pinch of salt.
Step 2: Following this, run a small knife down the back of each prawn so they butterfly out as they cook which will also encourage more sauce to stick to them!
Step 3: Next, toss the prawns through the cornflour mixture. In a large wok, heat the oil and when it is very hot, add the garlic. Cook for 10 seconds but do not let it brown. Add the prawns and any flour and seeds left in the bowl.
Step 4: Cook the mixture on high for a few minutes, until the prawns are pink and the sesame seeds are golden brown. Then tip the prawns into a plate and pour the sauce mixture into the wok. Cook the sauce for a few minutes until it thickens.
Step 5: Add the prawns back to the wok and stir in the sauce. Heat for another 30 seconds.
Step 6: To serve, top with spring onions and serve with rice.
