New technology means effortless ironing, every time

By Tom Craik, Naomi Biltcliffe | 18/08/2014 | Posted in Ironing, Back to School

Effortless ironing, every time

With back to school looming on the horizon all too soon, household chores, like ironing the school uniforms, are back at the top of the list. But which model will help you to make this thankless task a doddle? Clearly, the Morphy Richards Comfigrip, which has been awarded Best Buy Steam Iron for 2013.

Our products are great for helping get you ‘steam’ through for the never ending to-do list for helping get the kids ready for their return to school. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, check out these handy pointers:

1. Breakdown your to do list into categories: Stationary (all notebooks, pens and pencil cases), food (packed lunches and evening dinners for the first weeks) and clothing (new uniforms and cleaning old uniforms)

2. Find ways to make each task feel like less of a chore – you can get the little ones to draw pictures of their dream lunch box to inspire packed lunches; watch your favourite film as you do the back to school ironing or getting the kids to design their own clothes labels with a labelmaker.

We want to make your everyday life as stress-free as possible.

At Morphy Richards we are all about making your life easy with our smart ideas for your home, and our ionic soleplate helps with just that. Our new ion technology, featured as part of our new Comfigrip Iron, is designed to make your ironing effortless. If ‘ion’ means nothing to you, read on; all will be revealed!

Now for the science bit: The ion technology works by using an ionic soleplate which emits negatively charged ions, which cause static. This means you can iron without your clothes without shirts sleeves sticking to collars and without the hairs on your arms and head from sticking up on end.

The technology should take the ‘shock’ out of ironing, help you ‘steam’ through and leave all of your clothes with a pristine finish.

What’s more, the dual chamber technology, which gives you a quick steam boost for stubborn creases and pressing plate to remove any excess moisture from your clothes, ensuring they keep that ‘just ironed’ finish.

Ion technology is now available in both our Turbosteam and Comfigrip ranges, including the 301011 Comfigrip ionic steam iron. If you are interested in buying any of these irons or would like more information, then they are available now, right here on

Tackling the over-sized mountain of clothes which piles up while the kids are on school holidays never has to intimidate you again.

If the prospect of the inevitable back to school ironing pile is stressing you out, you are in luck, as some of our favourite bloggers will be sharing their closely guarded ironing tips in our first ever Google Hangout.

On Thursday 29th August at 7pm we will host a live web chat, in partnership with Tots100 and five bloggers, about how to make your ironing as quick and pain-free as possible.

Former ironing world record holder and professional dry cleaner, Ben Walton, will be your charismatic host for the evening. He’ll be on hand to offer knowledge, tips and expertise, as well as talking about how he managed to iron for 75 hours straight!

Each of the bloggers has tested our Power Steam Elite steam generator and new Comfigrip Steam Iron with Ionic Soleplate - and will be sharing their experiences and thoughts about these.

The products:

You may have seen both these products pop up on your TV screens over the past weeks, if not and you’d like to take a peek our brand new TV adverts are available to watch on our YouTube channel. The first, the Power Steam Elite, is our most powerful steam generator ever. With 180g of instant steam it’s sure to make light work of even the largest of ironing piles, leaving you to put your feet up and enjoy the more important things in life!

The Comfigrip Steam Iron with Ionic Soleplate introduces a brand new ionic soleplate, ensuring effortless ironing every time.

How to watch:

Tuning in couldn’t be simpler. We will be broadcasting live from the Tots100 YouTube channel at 7pm on Thursday 29th August. The Hangout will last for around 20 minutes, so there is plenty of time to see the products in action, and to hopefully learn a thing or two in the process!

Hard water and ironing

By Tom Craik | 29/05/2013 | Posted in Ironing

Hard water is becoming increasingly prevalent in the United Kingdom; BBC News in particular has recently picked up on the varying levels of water quality across the country, illustrating a real problem. We’ll talk later in the week about how this can affect making your perfect cup of tea, but did you ever think that it could affect your ironing? Being prepared and always staying one step ahead is the way to deal with this natural problem, and to avoid any unnecessary problems further down the live.

‘Hard’ water refers to water that is very high in mineral content; although it’s not dangerous to your health, it’s generally accepted that ‘hard’ water doesn’t taste as nice as ‘soft’ water. The worst affected regions in England tend to be areas around London and Kent, however this isn’t exclusive and ‘hard’ water areas can be found up and down the country.

It is, however, a pain for your appliances, as ‘hard’ water has been directly linked to outbreaks of limescale. A limescale build up within your steam generator iron can be detrimental not only to the quality of your product, but also the quality of your ironing – creases will creep back into your household after a much welcomed absence! This is a purely natural outcome; however there are stays that can be taken to avoid this issue.

Depending on the model of steam generator iron that you have in your household, you can purchase additional anti-scale accessories to control any potential build ups. It’s recommended that you should change your cartridge/bag every two to three months to ensure the crispest iron every time, especially if you live in a ‘hard’ water area.

For models such as the Jet Stream 2200W Steam Generator, we have a range of anti-scale bags that fit directly into the iron and help battle against limescale. For other steam generator irons, our anti-scale cartridges will do the same job. Always make sure to check your instruction manual to find information on which your steam generator iron takes.

september news round up

By Tom Craik | 02/10/2012 | Posted in Ironing, Kitchen, Product Reviews, Coffee Makers, Slow Cookers, Morphy Richards

We’re pretty confident about the quality of all our products, which is why we’re love to share with you what other people are saying, whether that’s reviews from bloggers, tests from home journalists or valuable feedback from our customers.

Here’s a brief round-up of the Morphy Richards-related chatter over the last month.

Candis featured a round-up of the best coffee machines around, and Morphy Richards came out on top!

Our sleek looking Nesta Filter Coffee Machine was ranked the Best Overall Machine, with the writer touting its programmable timer (which allows you to time your caffeine fix for when you rise and shine), and its hot plate, which helps keep the coffee warm for up to four hours after it’s made.

Did you know that as well as looking incredibly stylish, our Accents One Cup is eco-friendly? According to Your Home, the coffee maker is the ideal kitchen gadget for anyone looking to save some space, energy and most importantly, money.

It’s really easy to make hot drinks with this nifty appliance; all you need to do is fill a cup with water, pour it into the chamber of the machine, and it'll boil and dispense it in 30 seconds. Voila!

Style at Home included Morphy’s Turbosteam Steam Iron in its feature on the best-value irons under £40. The publication loved its diamond soleplate, which makes for smooth ironing and the ability to tackle stubborn creases.

Praising the powerful steam function, the eco-button and large water tank, the title proclaimed “diamonds are your clothes’ best friend”!

Our Partition Pot Slow Cooker is another popular product with the media. The Woman & Home Feel Good Special called it "a top-notch slow cooker", praising the appliance for doing exactly what its name suggests!

They loved the fact you can cook different dishes to suit individual tastes and preferences, particularly when it comes to spice. The publication calls it “the perfect solution for couples and families alike”.

So there you have it, some of the lovely, kind things people have been saying about us recently. If you’ve got any feedback on any of our appliances, why not let us know by commenting below?

Whiz through your ironing pile with help from Morphy Richards

By Janelle Hardacre | 19/09/2012 | Posted in Garment Care, Ironing, New Product

If you’re looking for the perfect leaving home essential for your youngster heading off to uni, Morphy Richards has the answer – its new Breeze Steam Iron with Stainless Steel Soleplate.

Every parent wants their children to look presentable all of the time and they’ll have no excuse not to make an effort, if you purchase this new, great-value Breeze steam iron from Morphy.

The iron is well designed and boasts 35g variable steam, so it’s still powerful enough to help speedily iron stylish shirts and dresses before a night out. Even if they don’t know how to iron, it has a 100g stubborn crease boost as well, so you can be sure they’ll always look well groomed when they’ve used it!

As well as coming up with a fantastic appliance that’s perfect for students up and down the country, we’ve also got a few top tips on how to iron to help them out – especially if they’re not a dab hand with one already.

  • When using a steam iron, always start in the middle of the item of clothing and work outwards, in an up and down motion – this will ensure a pristine finish
  • Check the temperature instructions on clothing before ironing it! This is vital, as you don’t want to burn a hole in any pieces of clothing
  • If you’re ironing something dark or a woollen garment, use a damp cloth on top of the material as this will help prevent any shininess
  • Shirts are notoriously difficult to iron, but if you make sure they’re almost dry – instead of completely dry – it’ll get rid of the creases more easily. If the shirt’s too dry to start off with, the creases will be even more stubborn and may even come back!
  • To really cut your ironing time, make sure you use a reflective ironing board – this will help to iron both sides at once. If you don’t have this type of board, you can cheat by putting some tin foil under the ironing board cover and it’ll also do the trick
  • Unsurprisingly, the best way of keeping your newly ironed clothes crease free is to hang them up immediately – make sure you do that straight away to keep away the wrinkles

We hope these top tips will help make your ironing experience more enjoyable and, more importantly, less time consuming.

With these tips in mind, your children should have crumple-free clothing for the whole of their uni lives! So what are you waiting for? Get the ultimate steam iron now for the bargain price of just £19.99 on this website

By Janelle Hardacre | 19/09/2012 | Posted in Garment Care, Ironing, Steam Generator Iron, Back to School

It’s that time of year yet again. The summer holidays are over, which means the kids are heading back to school.

There’s an extra-large water tank on the Power Steam Elite, which means you can iron for longer without needing to refill it, speeding up the task in hand. When you do need to refill, the control panel will alert you and you can do it straight away, without it needing to cool down first. These little time-saving quirks make ironing far quicker.

Another great thing about the steam generator is that you’ve got a choice of three variable steam settings to choose from. This means you can be efficient in your ironing, picking the level of steam depending  on how difficult you think the pile will be to tackle.

Steam generators are the most advanced irons on the market, designed to make sure your clothes are steamed constantly as you go. This means all the fabrics are softer and smoother than normal, and the creases disappear even quicker.

With this huge list of advantages, there’s no excuse not to get your hands on our Power Steam Elite to make tackling the back-to-school ironing pile feel far more achievable! You can purchase it direct from the Morphy Richards website for the reduced price of only £89.99.

Need a new iron? Check out our handy guide to sole plates

By Janelle Hardacre | 06/08/2012 | Posted in Garment Care, Ironing

What is it you look out for when you’re shopping for a new iron?  Is it value, the number of additional features or maybe even colour?

But have you ever considered what kind of soleplate you’re buying?  This can actually have a big affect on the quality of finish you achieve on your garments.

Irons on the market at the moment usually feature soleplates which have one of the following finishes:- non-stick, stainless steel or ceramic (the same stuff they use on hair straighteners).

So which one should you buy?

Aluminium – This is a good option if you’re an occasional ironer and you’re looking for a good value, effective iron which will do the job when you need it to.  Aluminium is an excellent material for retaining and transferring heat, which means that when the soleplate reaches the desired temperature it helps you remove those stubborn creases more easily – and that’s why we use Aluminium on our 40693 Turbosteam irons.

Non- stick –  Irons like this also benefit from an aluminium soleplate but with the added reassurance of a non-stick coating.  This ensures the iron glides easily over your clothes.  You’ll find this finish on our 40629 Turbosteam iron

Stainless Steel – This is a great option if you’ve got a lot of ironing to get through and you want to steam through your pile quickly and easily. Stainless steel is extremely durable and we’ve found that it can help to avoid further creasing whilst ironing.  A number of irons in our new Comfigrip range feature a stainless steel soleplate along with our patented Tri-Zone technology which splits the soleplate into three sections to give you the best results – turbo boost, constant steam and the pressing plate.

Ceramic – If you’re ironing for a large family or often find yourself tackling particularly difficult creases, then you might wish to opt for a ceramic soleplate.  Just like when you’re straightening your hair, ceramic soleplates provide exceptional glide-ability whilst also eliminating static, meaning clothes won’t stick to it.  Our designers have used ceramic on our Jet Steam Elite Steam Generator which is great for breezing through large piles and achieving a great quality of finish.

So next time you go shopping to replace your iron it’s definitely worth thinking about which soleplate is going to best suit your ironing needs.

Comfigrip Iron Gets 4 Stars ****

By Janelle Hardacre | 06/08/2012 | Posted in Product Reviews, Ironing, Garment Care

The Fair Lady test house team has given a Morphy Richards Comfigrip iron a thorough steam through and have some great things to say about it.

How we tested

The irons were tested for performance on a range of different fabrics, ease of use, handle comfort, weight and safety aspects. All the irons we tested have a temperature control dial, indicator light; 360º swivel cord, steam boost and water spray, unless otherwise mentioned. The weight given is for a filled iron.

How we rated

***** excellent
**** very good
*** good
** satisfactory
* poor

Morphy Richards Comfigrip 40733

Features 2400W; variable steam control; vertical steam; anti-drip; 420ml water tank; 1,96kg; 3m cord

Comments This iron is big and heavy.
It has a large water tank so you don’t have to keep refilling it. It moves well over different types of fabric and is effective. It has an excellent steam boost. The cord is really long.

We’ve found that the forumla for perfect ironing is heat, moisture and weight, so we always bear this in mind when developing our range of irons here at Morphy Richards. We have developed a new range of Comfigrip irons which include all these great features and more – all shaped around what you told us you wanted out of your irons.

Are you a secret ironer?

By Janelle Hardacre | 06/08/2012 | Posted in Ironing, Garment Care

When it comes to pastimes, ironing is normally seen as housework more than a hobby, but there are actually people out there who have a real passion for pressing clothes, but choose to keep their ironing obsession behind closed doors.

Although women statistically still do the majority of the ironing in the home, the men who do iron do tend to enjoy the task at hand. (If you know any, let us know!)

It’s not just the average man or woman in the street who enjoys ironing though. A number of celebrities have come out of the woodwork who have a passion for steaming their shirts too!

The former Justice Secretary Jack Straw is one such public figure who finds ironing a pleasure. The Labour MP for Blackburn admits he likes to do it whilst watching football and finds the task relaxing. He also said he gets satisfaction from finishing a shirt.

Daybreak presenter Christine Bleakley describes her ironing hobby as one of the weirdest hobbies imaginable adding “I know it’s boring but I’m madly obsessed”.

Another celebrity who lists ironing as a hobby (along with knitting) is Amy Winehouse. A number of reports in the media suggest she can’t get enough of ironing anything from shirts to bed sheets.

There are even secret ironing fans in the world of sports too where you might not expect to find them. In an interview a few days after becoming the IBF World Heavyweight Champion in 2006, boxer Wladimir Klitschko said his favourite way to relax was by ironing! He added he never let anyone else touch his shirts (and we wouldn’t argue with that!)

Former England Rugby League boss and current Wakefield Wildcat head coach uses ironing as a way of coping with the pressure of big matches, finding it therapeutic and relaxing working through a large load of laundry.

We don’t think there is any need to apologise for having a passion for ironing. Thousands of people up and down the country do. Let us know if you are, like us, an ironing fan.

Whether you’re a secret ironing fan or not you could bag yourself £500 just by doing the ironing! We’ve got three lots of £500 to give away and three golden irons in our video competition The World Ironing Championships! Check out the official competition page to find out you can win.

How’s it hanging?

By Janelle Hardacre | 06/08/2012 | Posted in Garment Care, Ironing, Ironing World Championships

We know that for lots of you ironing is one of those necessary evils that just has to be done to keep you and your family looking smart and well turned out. It’s amazing though how many people spend their precious time steaming through their pile, only to find that their smartly pressed garments become scruffy and creased again, simply because they haven’t been put away properly.

It’s all in the hanging and folding. Some garments can be stored in drawers for weeks, where others will become creased again in minutes if folded up. Check out our handy guide on how to store your clothes and keep them perfectly crease free!

  • T-shirts and knitwear should be folded rather than hung up. Avoid squashing too many garments into the drawer though or the bottom of the pile will need another iron
  • Always hang shirts up. We all know how much effort goes into ironing a shirt so it’s good to know that it will remain crease free until you next get a chance to wear it. Avoid using those free hangers you get from the shops and splash out on some thick wooden hangers as these won’t distort the shape of your shirts
  • We’d bet that only the keenest of ironers would press their jeans, so these are fine to be folded up and put in a drawer
  • Most other trousers however will need to be hung up. Make sure to use proper clamp-style trouser hangers and hang the trousers upside down from the bottom. If you don’t have any of these knocking around, use a normal hanger, but wrap a bit of card or a tea towel around the hard edge before folding the trousers carefully in half over it so you don’t end up with a big crease mark
  • Suits are probably the hardest garments to hang well. Quite often suits can be hung up in the wardrobe for months before you get a chance to wear them again and you don’t want it to be creased and distorted for next time. You can either hang the trousers and jacket together or separately. Follow our trouser tips above and make sure the jacket hanger has good support at the shoulders. Also, try not to hang suits in plastic bags for too long as they can start to smell
  • Did you know, the type of iron you have can actually affect whether your lovingly pressed garments become re-ceased again?  Our dedicated team of designers have developed our Comfigrip range of irons with this in mind. Their unique TriZone soleplate technology effortlessly powers through creases and removes excess moisture which means your clothes are less likely to become creased again once you’ve hung or folded them.

Have you got any more golden garment care tips? Let us know! Or if you’re proud of your ironing skills why not try your hand at becoming a World Ironing Champion? Check out how to enter on our official World Ironing Championships page.

Diamond Discount from Morphy Richards

By Janelle Hardacre | 26/07/2012 | Posted in Anniversary, Garment Care, Ironing, Morphy Richards

As we all gear up for the jubilee weekend celebrations, Morphy Richards has been taking a look back through the archives at the products the British public would have been using in their households at the time of the Queen’s coronation.

Here at Morphy Richards we pride ourselves on manufacturing high quality home appliances that make everyday lives easier and although products and innovations have moved on over the years, this has been the same over the 75 years that Morphy Richards has been manufacturing products.

We were delighted to receive a letter from one of our customers this week about how her Morphy Richards iron has been serving herself and her mother well for decades and after more than 50 years it’s still going strong. Having been purchased in the 50s its likely to be one of the oldest working irons in the UK. She kindly sent us the model to have a look at and it was fantastic to see what good condition it was in, even the box and the guarantee were still intact.

It was quite fitting to learn about the existence of the iron so close to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as we have recently launched our latest range of irons which feature real diamonds in their soleplates. The Diamond Soleplate is now featured across most of the Morphy range and provides incredible durability and ‘glideability’ so you can iron your garments with ease time after time, to the pristine finish you would expect from Morphy Richards.

The Comfigrip Steam Iron Diamond TriZone Soleplate also has a whole host of other innovative features to help you steam through your ironing pile with ease including the Trizone Solplate, antidrip and auto shut off.

To mark the Jubilee celebrations, you can pick up our top of the range Comfigrip Steam Iron Diamond TriZone Soleplate with a huge 40 per cent off. Just go to and enter BLOG6840 at the checkout.

Here at Morphy HQ, we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of entries that we’ve received from ‘Mummy’ and ‘Foodie’ bloggers to become one of our ‘Innovators’ and test the latest products in our range. As a result of partnering with the ‘Foodies 100’ and ‘Tots 100’, we’ve received over 100 entries from blogger and are currently enjoying reading them all!

Last year, we worked with 15 bloggers who tested our appliances and provided valuable feedback and insight that we then passed on to our elite team of our designers. Our designers are now using much of that feedback when designing and developing future products. Following the initiative’s success, we are looking to recruit a further 30 bloggers.

We’re back off to read through more of the great entries, we’ll report back next week with details of our selected bloggers. We’ll also reveal our brand spanking new ‘Innovators’ badge which our bloggers will proudly display on their blogs.

Win With Morphy! Help us tell the Morphy story by unearthing your old products!

By Tom Craik | 25/07/2012 | Posted in Floor Care, Garment Care, Household Cleaning, Ironing

Here at Morphy, we love nothing better than hearing a great story about household appliances – especially our own!

So you can imagine how thrilled we were to hear from Debbie Bolas about her grandmother Annie Hall from Batley who designed the clicker switch one of our toasters, with the help of none other than brand co-founder Charles Richards.

Ms Hall was blind and, getting fed up of burnt toast, she enlisted the help of Mr Richards to help create a switch that would bring an end to her problems.

Here she is being presented with the very first one off the product line … Doesn’t she look proud?

Ms Bolas’ story got us thinking about the other great Morphy tales people might be storing away in their cupboards.

You may have seen that we’ve switched our Facebook page to the new timeline format, which allows you to post key milestones in your company history, and we want your help to tell our story throughout the years.

We want to hear about the oldest household appliances you’ve got knocking around in your home, whether it’s a 10 year old kettle, a 20 year old vacuum cleaner or an old faithful iron.

If you like our Facebook page, you’ve probably already seen stories like this one about the 60-year-old Morphy toaster. We want to uncover even more, and use our Facebook page to tell the story of Morphy Richards from your perspective.

As well as seeing your prized household appliance on our Facebook page, you’ll also be in with a chance of winning a striking Accents Blue Kettle and Toaster set!
